Another Face

When looking for inspiration there are few things more useful to an artist than other artists work, and particularly for “urban interventionists” if that work is in public space. The Gormley project “Broken Column” saw a dozen iron men installed across the city in a kind of face saving public art project after failing to secure the more spectacular “Another Place” that was situated on a regional beach between 1998.-99. “Another Face” brought further utility value to the Gormley statues (often dressed in T-Shirts by promoters of various events and causes), in warning that face masks were mandated.
